Sig Sauer VP of Consumer Affairs Discusses the Document They Didn’t Want You to See
In a live interview today with Hunters HD Gold, Sig Sauer VP of Consumer Affairs, Phil Strader, addressed an audience question about the “highly confidential” P320 document that I previously wrote about and published here. Strader is quoted as saying, “now that it is out there, we [Sig] don’t mind.”
The video segment can be viewed here:
This statement contradicts the emergency motions that Sig Sauer filed in court last week, seeking to remove public access to the improperly redacted FMECA document. That emergency motion is included below:
Similarly, in other cases, Sig Sauer has sought to have the document and related testimony sealed, citing trade secrets. They also stated:
The engineering details and decisions regarding how to minimize or eliminate potential causes of failure give Sig Sauer a competitive advantage over its competition and [are] trade secrets that would be highly prejudicial to Sig Sauer if exposed to the public.
It is unclear how Strader’s comments today will impact the various motions Sig Sauer has filed. In fact, the media organization The Trace filed a motion last month to unseal the FMECA and related sealed exhibits. Sig Sauer is expected to respond to that intervention next week.

The Road Ahead
- Court Deadlines – Watch for Sig Sauer’s brief opposing The Trace’s motion and any follow‑up from plaintiffs wielding today’s clip as Exhibit A.
- Discovery Battles – Plaintiffs are likely to press for all internal risk analyses, not just the FMECA, arguing waiver of confidentiality.
- Public Scrutiny – Each new filing keeps the P320 controversy in the headlines—especially with the Air Force death still under investigation.
I’ll be monitoring the dockets and will post updates as soon as the next motions hit PACER. Stay tuned.
